Project Title: Preservation of Malay Traditional Houses in Peninsula Malaysia as an Insight of the National Heritage Act 2005


Brief:

Malay traditional houses in Peninsula Malaysia obviously had differences of each state in their distinct creativity and skills of the local in fulfilling the need of local culture. The traditional house built by the Malays indigenous ethnic in Peninsular Malaysia as a traditional residence. More clearly, Malay traditional house is a house that lived or owned by Muslims which is Islam. It had manifests the creative and aesthetic skills of the Malay for its intricacy and complexity in design. This research can identify the universal value of historical Malay traditional houses that can be gazette as national heritage act 2005.

  1. Recent trends show that modern Malay houses turned into non-traditional use. Changes Malay houses have caused the loss of color and traditional values of the original.

  2. Less preservation in the heritage of Malay traditional house gives without awareness of an individual or the society to choose the meaning of old Malay architecture.

Development:

  1. To educate so as to develop an understanding of our built heritage as an expression of our history and identity

  2. To create awareness and public support for preservation so as to ensure the survival of our heritage building.

Impact:

The presented research summarizes the differences of Malay traditional houses in Peninsular Malaysia of each state. Recent trends indicated that the modern Malay houses are changing to the use of non-traditional houses. This research will create an awareness and public support for conservation so as to ensure the survival of our built heritage. It had manifested the creative and aesthetic skills of the Malay traditional house. This research can identify the universal value of historical Malay traditional houses that can be gazetted as traditional as traditional heritage act 2005.
